Carwon Marqavious Redding, a 32-year-old man wanted on a murder warrant, has been apprehended after his September 27 escape from Grady detention. Fugitive Detectives, with support from the Georgia State Patrol and other law enforcement units, successfully located and detained Mr. Redding; he is now en route back to Fulton County Jail, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Redding's initial arrest took place on September 26, following his alleged involvement in a homicide on April 14, at 1980 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway where a shooting led to the death of one male victim and the injury of another, with the second victim remaining in stable condition after transport to the hospital. Investigators are still piecing together the exact sequence of events of that night. On the day following his custody, Redding managed to escape while awaiting medical treatment at Grady Hospital, prompting a city-wide search.
The Atlanta Police Department issued public alerts and actively surveyed the area for Redding, who had been captured on surveillance footage fleeing from the hospital; they cautioned the public that Mr. Redding might have changed clothes after discarding his Grady hospital gown and bright yellow socks.
Redding, who again is now in police custody, faced charges of felony murder and a criminal attempt to sell cocaine before his escape, which emerged from his arrest by MARTA Police on an incident that was registered as homicide #48 (Case #241051729).
