A tragic multi-vehicle crash in Baltimore County has claimed the lives of two individuals and left an additional four people injured as state police continue their investigation into the incident. The accident, which took place yesterday afternoon, involved several vehicles, including a pickup truck and a mobile crane, both of whose drivers were pronounced dead at the scene—their identities withheld pending notification of next of kin. According to a statement obtained by Maryland State Police, the injured parties were transported to WellSpan York Hospital in Pennsylvania for treatment.
The Maryland State Police Gold Ring Barrack responded to reports of the collision, which occurred on northbound Interstate 83 near York Road, where a southbound pickup truck pulling a trailer veered for unexplained reasons across the median, collided with a northbound mobile crane, both vehicles were then consumed by fire. This incident resulted in the involvement of three other vehicles. As a consequence of the crash, the northbound lanes of I-83 were closed to traffic while the authorities began their investigation and cleanup efforts.
Personnel from various departments, including the Maryland State Police Crash Team and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, officers from the Baltimore County Police Department, teams from the Baltimore County Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, were involved in the response.
