Attention Bay Area commuters: If you usually travel on US 60 around Surprise, please note some upcoming lane restrictions. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that starting yesterday and continuing through Wednesday, there will be one-lane-only conditions on both eastbound and westbound lanes of US 60 near the Loop 303 interchange.
The lane restrictions will reduce sections of the road to just one lane, particularly east of Loop 303 up to the west side of 163rd Avenue. Commuters can expect these reductions from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting yesterday evening, with similar restrictions throughout the weekend. Tonight and tomorrow night, the work will extend until 9 a.m. the following mornings. Additionally, ADOT notes that left turns to 163rd Street and from 163rd Street onto Grand Avenue may be restricted during these hours.
Another change is scheduled for next Wednesday, when northbound Loop 303 will be reduced to two lanes at the US 60 junction. The northbound Loop 303 off-ramp to Grand Avenue will also close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Additionally, westbound US 60 near Loop 303 will have a single-lane reduction during the same hours. These changes are part of efforts to install new sidewalks, remove barriers, and repave Grand Avenue.
For those seeking to plan their detours or gather more information about the ongoing roadwork, additional details can be found on the project’s website at azdot.gov/us60-303-upgrades. When navigating through these areas, it’s advisable to drive slowly, remain alert, and merge cautiously in the work zones.
