
This morning, tragedy struck at South Aquatic Park when a 69-year-old man was found deceased under a vehicle. A report to the Berkeley Police Department led officers to the scene at approximately 4:32 am, where they commenced a death investigation near the parking roundabout. According to the Berkeley Police Department report, emergency personnel discovered the man pinned underneath a parked vehicle. He was declared dead at the location.
The Berkeley Police Department's Fatal Accident Investigation Team promptly responded to investigate the incident. During the investigation, they proceeded to arrest Miguel Angel Davila-Huizar, the 40-year-old driver, on suspicion of multiple offenses. It has been alleged that Davila-Huizar was driving under the influence, lacked a valid driving license, and is suspected to have committed gross vehicular manslaughter.
The charges leveled against the driver are serious: 23153(f) VC Driving under the influence causing bodily injury, 12500(a) VC Driving a vehicle without a valid license, and 191.5(b) PC Gross vehicular manslaughter.
