With the holiday shopping rush just around the corner, Bloomington is gearing up to celebrate Small Business Saturday. An annual post-Thanksgiving tradition, this day dedicated to supporting local enterprises is set for November 30th. This year, it's not just about the great finds; the city is raising the stakes with a Shop Local selfie contest designed to create buzz and bring shoppers to area storefronts.
As noted in an announcement from the City of Bloomington, residents are encouraged to, "Be part of the movement!" The Love Local campaign, a joint effort with Hennepin County, aims to boost the community economy and celebrate business diversity. Shoppers on the prowl for unique gifts and experiences will contribute to local job creation, and economic stability while enjoying what their neighborhood has to offer.
But it's not all serious business; there's a fun twist to the initiative. Shoppers can participate in the contest by posting a selfie to Instagram with the hashtag #ShopLocalBloomington. According to the City of Bloomington's statement, there are three chances to win bragging rights in categories including Most Creative, Best in Shop, and Most Friend-Filled Selfie. The winners will gain local renown when their winning shots are shared on the City’s Instagram.
The City's push for local business support doesn't end with the contest. On this upcoming Small Business Saturday, shoppers are expected to flock to local shops, infusing Main Street with much-needed holiday revenue. Remember, when you choose to patronize a local business, you're not just buying a product, you're investing in your community, and, creating a landscape of diverse commerce that benefits all who call Bloomington home.
