A fox, believed to be rabid after biting a resident, has prompted a warning from the City of Boerne. On Tuesday, a woman was bitten by the fox while in her yard near School Street and West Cibolo Drive. In response to this potentially dangerous situation, Boerne Animal Care Services is conducting aggressive searches and setting traps in the area.
Prior to the biting event, over the weekend, an animal, which potentially is the same fox, exhibited aggressive behavior. "We suspect this was the same fox aggressively approaching an animal and acting strangely near bags of dirt," as described in a Facebook post by the City of Boerne provided by MySanAntonio.
In response to these events, city officials have issued safety recommendations for the community. Residents are urged to keep their outdoor pets supervised and to bring them indoors if possible. Those with chickens or other livestock should ensure they are properly secured. Officials also advise against touching or trying to capture any wildlife. If residents notice any unusual behavior from animals, they should contact Boerne Animal Care Services at 830-249-2456 or use the after-hours non-emergency line at 830-249-8645, as per KSAT.
