Early Tuesday morning in Roxbury, a routine traffic stop turned into an arrest after police found a concealed firearm on one of the vehicle's occupants. According to the Boston Police Department, at about 12:30 AM near the intersection of Warren St. and Whiting St., officers observed a vehicle that failed to properly stop at a red light and obstruct a crosswalk. Officers on patrol initiated the traffic stop and approached the vehicle on foot. They immediately noticed the driver, Elijah Derosa-Hampton, appear to be trying to conceal something. Upon further inspection, the officers found a Smith & Wesson (M&P 9 Shield) with a round in the chamber and a full magazine in the possession of Sean Blackwell, the passenger. Derosa-Hampton had an active warrant for his arrest and was also cited for traffic violations.

Blackwell is facing multiple charges including Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License (2nd Offense), Carrying a Firearm Without a License (2nd Offense), and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned at Roxbury District Court. Derosa-Hampton, besides being detained for the outstanding warrant on charges of Assault & Battery, was issued a citation for Failure to Stop at a Red Light, Crosswalk Violation, and No Inspection Sticker. Both individuals' arraignments will take place at the Roxbury District Court.
