Boston is heading into a hot, sticky Friday, with sunny skies and an afternoon high near 91 degrees. The heat index could climb to around 96, making the day feel even hotter than the thermometer suggests. A Heat Advisory remains in effect through Friday evening.
The advisory runs until 8 p.m. Friday, with heat-index values reaching as high as 100 in parts of the region, according to the National Weather Service Boston/Norton. Residents should expect little relief during the afternoon, when west winds will stay light at around 6 mph.
Sunny Friday, Storm Chances Return Overnight
Friday stays mostly sunny through the day, with temperatures near 90 degrees from the early afternoon into the late afternoon. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after 4 a.m. Saturday, though the overnight rain chance is only about 20%.
Saturday will be a touch cooler, with a high near 88, but humidity will remain high and the heat index could again reach 95. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible after 7 a.m., and any stronger storm could bring lightning, gusty winds or a brief, heavy downpour.
Sunday Brings A Brief Break
Sunday looks like the cleanest day of the weekend, with sunny skies, a high near 89 and a west wind of 7 to 13 mph. Sunday night should be clear and cooler, with temperatures falling to around 68.
The workweek starts more comfortably, with Monday sunny and near 83. Shower and thunderstorm chances return Monday night into Tuesday, while Wednesday and Thursday stay near 79 with additional chances for rain.
Heat Safety Still Matters
During Friday's hottest hours, drink plenty of fluids, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and move strenuous outdoor work to the morning or evening when possible. Children and pets should never be left in vehicles, and anyone showing signs of heat stroke should be moved to a cool place and treated as an emergency by calling 911.
