Earlier yesterday, Boston Police Department officers responded to a report of gunfire in Roxbury, leading to the arrests of two individuals. According to a statement released by the BPD, the incident occurred around 4:12 a.m. near 57 Burrell Street following a Shot Spotter activation and multiple calls to 911. Ballistic damage was found on two buildings, and evidence of shots was recovered on site, although no injuries were reported.
During their investigation, officers located two men, Lexus Meade, 29, of Roxbury, and Claudio Lopes, 28, of Lynn, crouching by a dumpster at 570 Dudley Street. The police report detailed, one suspect began to approach the officers as the other fled towards Dudley Street. Despite repeatedly being instructed to halt, the fleeing suspect, attempting to conceal himself behind a vehicle, refused to comply with officers who were able to apprehend him after a brief resistance.
Further search led to the discovery of two firearms, a Rockledge 38 Special and a Smith and Wesson SD9 VE, near the dumpster where the suspects initially tried to conceal themselves. The Rockledge was found with five spent shell casings in the cylinder, and the Smith and Wesson had an unloaded sixteen round magazine. The BPD confirmed that the firearms were secured and the suspects were placed under arrest on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Both Meade and Lopes are expected to face these charges in the Roxbury District Court, with Lopes also facing an additional charge of resisting arrest.
