A late-night blaze in a Braintree, Massachusetts home led to an urgent rescue operation, as firefighters saved a woman seen hanging from a second-floor window. The fire, breaking out just after 9 p.m. yesterday at a Jefferson Street residence, prompted a swift response from fire crews, WCVB reported.
Heavy smoke was pouring from the building when first responders arrived, with one occupant having already escaped the flames through the front door. In a statement obtained by Boston 25 News, officials say they were alerted to the fire around 9:20 p.m. by an initial caller who also reported the woman trapped on the second floor.
The firefighters, faced with the urgent need to evacuate the distressed woman, retrieved a ground ladder to rescue her. Both individuals were then taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with minor burns. Braintree Mayor Erin Joyce, acknowledging the incident, commended the firefighters for their "quick and professional response" in handling the emergency, in a statement obtained by Boston 25 News.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, as the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to assist with the investigation. Local authorities are continuing to investigate the events that led to the incident on Jefferson Street.
