Chicopee is turning Szot Park into a full-scale community hangout next Monday evening, with National Night Out bringing more than 90 vendors, local officers, food, music, games and safety activities together in one place. The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. and is designed to make meeting the people behind the badges feel a lot less formal.
The Chicopee Police Department says the annual gathering will focus on community, connection and fun, while giving residents a chance to talk with officers and visit community safety booths. For families, it is part neighborhood block party, part public-safety open house—and there should be enough vendors to keep everyone moving.
What To Expect At Szot Park
According to the City of Chicopee, the evening will include music, food and drinks, games, activities and a flashlight walk beginning at 8 p.m. If the weather refuses to cooperate, organizers have set the following Thursday as the rain date.
National Night Out is part of a nationwide community-building campaign organized around police-community partnerships. The National Association of Town Watch says communities across the country mark the occasion with block parties, festivals, safety demonstrations, youth events and visits from emergency personnel.
Chicopee’s Event Has Become A Major Annual Tradition
The city’s event page notes that Chicopee was recognized last year in the National Night Out awards category for communities with populations between 50,000 and 100,000. That recognition follows years of increasingly large gatherings and helps explain why this year’s vendor list is stretching past 90.
Local coverage from the Chicopee Register reported that the 2024 celebration marked the event’s 30th year and brought residents together with police, fire personnel, agencies and community organizations. This year’s Szot Park gathering carries on that same low-pressure mission: put neighbors and first responders in the same space and let the conversations do some of the safety work.
