The City of Brentwood is preparing for its annual Arbor Day celebration on March 29, 2025. The event will take place at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The theme for the 2025 celebration is "Family Tree – Many Branches of Opportunity," which will also be central to the board's poster and writing contests, aimed at students in the community, according to the city's annoucement.
In a statement obtained by the City of Brentwood, Lynn Tucker, chair of the Tree Board, expressed enthusiasm for the event: "Our Arbor Day celebration continues to be one of the most popular annual events hosted in this community, and the Brentwood Tree Board works hard to make sure this day is always a success." Tucker went on to say, "I hope to see everyone again in six short months as we celebrate Brentwood’s commitment to trees and the environment."
Among the events planned for the day, the Tree Board will honor current City Manager Kirk Bednar, who is retiring in February 2025, after more than two decades of service. In recognition of his contributions, a tree will be dedicated in his honor. In addition, the day will include the unveiling of its historic time capsule, buried some 25 years ago to commemorate the new millennium, in partnership with the Brentwood Morning Rotary.
The Brentwood Arbor Day will also bring an acorn contest, where participants guess the number of acorns in a jar, and freebies such as tree seedlings, food, and ice cream will be available for attendees. The Brentwood website mentions this as part of a tradition to connect the community with environmental causes and to emphasize the importance of trees in urban areas.
