Residents in Brooklyn Park remain on high alert following a burglary that took place on October 24, 2024. At approximately 7:27 PM, police were called to a home on the 1700 block of 73rd Ave N after the homeowners discovered an armed intruder upon their return. According to the incident report, the suspect pointed a handgun at them before fleeing.
Despite efforts by Brooklyn Park Police, including assistance from Brooklyn Center Police and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, which involved setting up a perimeter and deploying a K-9 unit, the suspect managed to evade capture. Having a skinny build and sporting beard-style facial hair, the suspect is described as a black male around 5'9" to 5'10" in height.
Earlier the same day, police referenced further trouble by a suspicious individual bearing a resemblance to the burglar, noted for peeping into homes and testing door handles. This individual was spotted near the 7500 block of Newton Ave N and Meadowwood Dr. He was reported as wearing contrasting clothing; a black hoodie with white lettering, paired with an inconspicuous black coat featuring red sleeves, and lighter-colored pants.
Brooklyn Center authorities echoed similar sightings of a person matching this description, leading to an increased police presence and scrutiny. With the suspect remaining at large, Brooklyn Park Police stress the importance of securing homes, advocating tightened security measures such as double-checking locks on windows and doors. They urge residents, should they catch a glimpse of suspicious behavior, to not hesitate in contacting 911 urgently.
