Brooklyn Park residents, mark your calendars because Recycling Week is upon us, scheduled from October 7 to 11, with a follow-up Special Materials Drop-Off Day slated for October 12, as reported by the City of Brooklyn Park. This weeklong initiative is a concerted effort to bolster the city's recycling efforts and encourage community participation in sustainable practices. Recycling services remind us to have our recycling carts at the curb no later than 6:30 a.m., as collection crews work tirelessly until 6:00 p.m. to finish their rounds.
In the spirit of ensuring efficiency and avoiding pitfalls of the sorting process, it's vital to keep recycling protocols in mind. For instance, recyclables should be placed loose in your cart, never in bags. According to the City of Brooklyn Park, "Plastic bags are thrown in the trash unopened" at the sorting facility, and material in paper bags can become trapped, severely hampering the recycling process. Additionally, positioning your cart at least three feet away from obstacles, and with the handle facing away from the street optimizes collection.
The Special Materials Drop-Off Day is a key component of the week, designed to handle miscellaneous recyclable items that don't typically fit in the regular curbside cart. Interested parties should head over to 8300 Noble Ave. N, Brooklyn Park from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12.
