The Gab & Eat restaurant in Carnegie, a local spot for breakfast and lunch, is under scrutiny following many health violations reported by inspectors. After an investigation on Thursday, the Allegheny County Health Department issued a consumer alert on the establishment, as detailed in a report by Audacy.
More than 20 violations were discovered during the routine safety check. Among the more severe offenses were cold food being held at temperatures well above the safe limit of 41 degrees. Inspectors found flats of eggs and other items like diced ham, cooked vegetables, and various meats, with temperatures ranging from 56 to 65 degrees, as reported by WPXI. It was reported that silverware, meant to be clean, was being stored on dirty shelving in the dish room. The article also noted the restaurant's inconsistent date-marking of prepared foods, plumbing issues, and an outdated fire suppression system.
A prep cooler registering an ambient temperature of 57 degrees was among the concerns, and employees observed a lack of hand-washing between glove changes. Furthermore, the restaurant's person in charge could not demonstrate knowledge of safe temperatures for storing and handling various food products, escalating the seriousness of the infractions.
