
Tragedy struck in Morgan Park late Monday night when a man inside his home was critically wounded by stray bullets from a drive-by shooting intended for another individual. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, a 23-year-old man was walking into a residence on the 1300 block of West 109th Place around 11:50 p.m. when an assailant in a vehicle opened fire. The intended target escaped harm, but the gunfire subsequently pierced the walls of a second-floor apartment, striking a 49-year-old man in the abdomen.
The victim found wounded in what should have been the safety of his dwelling, was taken to Christ Medical Center. As reported by FOX 32 Chicago, his condition was listed as critical. The shooter, having unleashed a volley of bullets that found an unintended mark, had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived and was not in custody as the investigation unfolded.
Chicago police and Area 2 detectives are actively investigating the circumstances behind the shooting, seeking to understand the events that led to the perilous misfire. No arrests had been reported as of Tuesday morning, and authorities have yet to disclose any potential motives or suspects in the case.
