This weekend, the Chicago Police Department is ramping up its efforts to curb impaired driving in the city's 4th (South Chicago) District. According to the Chicago Police Department, a DUI Saturation Patrol will be deployed from Friday evening through early Saturday morning.
Starting from 6 p.m. on October 18, 2024, until 2 a.m. the following day, the initiative will see increased police presence with officers closely monitoring for signs of intoxicated driving. The goal is not only to apprehend those driving under the influence but also to enforce speed and seatbelt laws.
Speed detection devices are set to be in use throughout the operation to catch speeders in the act. Moreover, the BAT Mobile Unit may also make an appearance, streamlining the charging process for those suspected of DUI offenses, by allowing on-site Breath Alcohol Testing.
Individuals charged with DUI might be able to receive Individual Recognizance Bonds (I-Bonds). This means that they could be potentially processed and released promptly pending their court appearance directly from the site of the DUI Saturation Patrol, according to the Chicago Police Department.
