The incident occurred Thursday afternoon and prompted a significant response from law enforcement at the intersection of 56th Place and Shields Avenue, following reports of gunfire.
According to a statement given to NBC Chicago, an officer was shot in the leg at the scene. The Chicago Fire Department transported a second individual to a local hospital in serious-to-critical condition, though their condition later stabilized.
The suspected shooter was also shot during the incident.
