
Authorities are on the lookout for a vehicle and suspect linked to an aggravated battery incident involving the use of a firearm at Hamlin Park, as reported by the Chicago Police Department's community alert. The crime, which unfolded on the 3000 block of N Hoyne Ave at approximately 2:18 p.m., on October 4, 2024, resulted in a 15-year-old being struck by gunfire within the park's basketball courts.
The surveillance video captured the sequence of the violent act; it depicted two individuals exiting a red 2020 Buick Envision SUV with tinted windows, the vehicle being one of the key elements in the investigation, with one of the subjects firing at the victim and subsequently both fleeing the scene and they turned southbound on North Seely Ave then westbound on West George St. According to the alert, the front seat passenger, a male Hispanic estimated aged between 20-35 years, was last seen sporting an olive sweater and a gray baseball cap, and the driver, a male Black of a similar age range, was noted for wearing eyeglasses.
The Chicago Police Department's Area Three Detective Division is reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying the individuals and the vehicle involved. In light of the incident, community members have been urged to stay vigilant and to immediately dial 9-1-1 if they notice anything suspicious, but to avoid pursuing any suspects on their own.
While the investigation continues, those with information are encouraged to come forward and can provide their insights to the police which may play a critical role in the case, the details of the vehicle and the suspects have been disseminated widely in hopes that community tips can aid in the quick apprehension of the individuals responsible for this attack on a young member of the community.
