Chicago rapper Lil Durk, real name Durk Devontay Banks, has been taken into federal custody on murder-for-hire charges following an arrest in Broward County, Florida, as reported by NBC Chicago. The arrest occurred shortly after Banks performed at United Center in Chicago.
The charges arise amidst other legal troubles for Banks, where five members of the "Only the Family" crew, with which Banks is associated are facing indictment in a separate murder-for-hire plot linked to a crime in Los Angeles, California, and it remains unconfirmed if Banks's arrest relates directly to this case, according to the same NBC Chicago report, meanwhile, the mother of slain Chicago rapper FBG Duck has filed a lawsuit claiming Banks and his record label profited from her son's 2020 shooting death.
Following records obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times, U.S. marshals conducted the arrest and Banks is currently held at the main jail in Broward County. Further details on the nature of the alleged murder-for-hire plot have not been disclosed.
The lawsuit involving FBG Duck, born Carlton Weekly, aims to link Lil Durk and his late protege King Von to Weekly's gang-related death outside a luxury Chicago store in August 2020, also implicating the rap label OTF as a criminal enterprise, which stands accused of fostering an environment where artists engaged in criminal activity are signed, the same day of Banks's apprehension five Chicago men were arrested on grounds of involvement in a separate murder-for-hire conspiracy targeting rapper Quando Rondo over his alleged role in King Von's death, all five apprehended individuals allegedly have connections to the OTF collective formed by Lil Durk, according to the charges detailed by the Chicago Sun-Times report.
