Two children, a 7-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy, were struck by a van while they were aboard an electric scooter. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the collision occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. at the intersection of East 69th Street and South Stony Island Avenue. The impact of the incident was felt deeply by those at the scene and the first responders who attended to the injured.
Both children sustained injuries with the 7-year-old girl being listed in serious condition and the 12-year-year-old boy in fair condition, as they were transported to Comer Children's Hospital. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the driver of the van remained on the scene following the accident and has not been issued any citations by the Chicago police during the immediate aftermath.
According to CBS News, Chicago police detailed that the children were traveling westbound on the scooter when hit at the intersection by a white van headed southbound.
