The U.S. Coast Guard, in collaboration with local partner agencies, has initiated a search operation for a 66-year-old man who has been declared missing since last Wednesday near Lake Chien, Louisiana. The missing individual's last known GPS location was reported by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office around 8:40 p.m., according to FOX 8 Live. Efforts to locate him have up until now been fruitless.
The search began after a boat belonging to the man was found empty by a nearby boater near Terrebonne Parish. The discovery prompted an immediate response from the Coast Guard, who have since been searching the waters off the coast south of Pointe Aux Chenes and Isle De Jean Charles. WGNO reported that assets including a response boat and aircrews have been deployed to the search area.
Multiple agencies are involved in the search operation alongside the Coast Guard, including Station Grand Isle boat crews, Air Station New Orleans aircrews, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Authorities are also appealing to the public for assistance.
