In a disclosure that casts a shadow over the Center Colorado Police Department, Chief Aaron Fresquez and Sgt. Adam Fresquez, twin brothers in roles of authority, find themselves on the opposite side of the law they swore to uphold. According to KDVR, the two have been charged with theft upon allegations of using department resources for a private K-9 training venture whilst on duty, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation revealed on Friday.
The year-long probe culminated in the issuance of a summons for theft against the 35-year-old brothers. "Prosecutors allege that the brothers operated a private K-9 training business during their on-duty hours using city resources and then pocketed the training proceeds that should have gone to the Town of Center," as reported by Denver7. Fraught with the potential for conflict of interest, the 12th Judicial District Attorney's Office has stepped aside, inviting the 6th Judicial District Attorney's Office to serve as special prosecutors in the case.
Of the brothers, Chief Fresquez faces an additional misdemeanor count of official misconduct. While the legal process moves ahead, and the Court summons to appear in the 12th Judicial District Courthouse loom in the future for both Aaron and Adam, the CBI explained that mugshots are momentarily unavailable. Since the investigation remains ongoing, and as reported by KKTV, the accused officers have been placed on administrative leave.
With the void left in the wake of the allegations, Lieutenant Eidy Guaderama has stepped in as the interim chief. In conveying this shift in leadership, The CBI said Lieutenant Eidy Guaderama is filling in as interim chief, hinting at the department's intent to maintain order and continuity of service amidst the controversy. The community waits as the legal system grapples with the weighty task of rendering justice, placing its trust once again in the mechanisms designed to safeguard the civic body from the very specter of betrayal now unfolding within its ranks.
