A security incident near Ygnacio Valley High School and Oak Grove Middle School yesterday drew immediate action from Concord Police after they received reports of a suspicious grey sedan whose occupants were allegedly seen with a firearm. A post on the Concord Police Department's Facebook page detailed the response, which included a high-risk traffic stop in the high school's parking lot.
The stop prompted a lockdown at the high school as officers ensured the security of the scene. Though the reported firearm was not found, the vehicle's non-student occupants were taken into custody for alcohol-related offenses.
Following the arrests, Concord PD confirmed that there was no immediate threat to students or staff. "We thank school staff and students for their vigilance and our officers for their swift response in ensuring community safety," the department's statement read. In the wake of the incident, the schools will see an increased police presence as resource officers and additional patrol units continue coordinating closely with school administrations.
Further details on the investigation are pending, and the Concord Police Department has not released any information regarding the specific alcohol-related crimes for which the suspects were arrested or their identities due to the ongoing nature of the probe.
