Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne has made moves to sustain the region's law enforcement and oversight by nominating Harold Pretel and Alexa Beeler for their established roles as Sheriff and Inspector General, respectively. According to news released by Cuyahoga County's official website, these nominations are subject to the approval of the Cuyahoga County Council.

"Both Pretel and Beeler have demonstrated exemplary service in their respective roles, ensuring that Cuyahoga County continues to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and public safety," Ronayne extolled, as per the announcement on the official Cuyahoga County page. Pending the Council's nod, Pretel and Beeler stand poised to embrace another four-year term under their belts, shepherding the County's safety and ethical compass.

During his tenure, which commenced on July 18, 2023, Sheriff Pretel added several feathers to his cap, including the Correctional Canine Screening Program and improved security measures at major local events, which have resonated with community approval. With 30 years on the beat, Pretel's journey through the ranks of the City of Cleveland Division of Police has seen him shepherd several divisions, including Homeland Special Operations as Deputy Chief, along with a history of leading the Office of Professional Standards.

As the head of integrity since April 2022, Beeler's appointment led to a spirited crusade against fraud, waste, and abuse in County operations. "Alexa has promoted a strong culture of responsible governance. We are confident these high standards will continue to be a trademark of her leadership," Ronayne stated in a message from the Cuyahoga County's news outlet.
