In a detailed social media Facebook post from CHP Oakland, 21-year-old Daniel "Danny" Lopez-Curiel's arrest was announced following significant investigative activities overseen by the department.
According to the CHP Oakland, the story began on July 19, when Lopez-Curiel allegedly fled from the police officers, armed and on foot, in the City of Oakland. Amid his flight, he was said to have brandished a handgun, ignoring the officers' orders to cease. Despite a thorough sweep of the area, he evaded capture that day. The suspect's rush to escape left behind a stolen black Honda Accord and provided the officers with a loaded handgun and a cell phone, both pivotal leads in the ensuing investigation.
The search to locate and apprehend the suspect intensified, with the social media announcement recounting CHP officers executing multiple search warrants to dig deeper into the case. Contributions came from various units within the CHP and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. All efforts converged on Wednesday as authorities made their move on Lopez-Curiel's residence, unearthing a trove of evidence that tied Lopez-Curiel to the prior incidents of vehicle theft and firearm possession.
Found within the premises were not only traces connecting the suspect to the earlier recovered items but also a cache of equipment used in vehicle thefts, including aftermarket key fobs, key programmers, and several shaved keys. Key to the case's conclusion was the apprehension of Lopez-Curiel himself in Union City. The arrest was made "without incident at approximately 9:30 a.m." as described by the CHP Oakland Facebook post. He now faces charges about possession of the stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, and various firearm violations, and was held at Santa Rita Jail.
