Voters in DeKalb County are being reminded to double-check their Advance Voting sites before leaving to vote in the current election cycle. DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) has highlighted some changes in locations and advises verifying them to avoid any inconvenience. "While we are seeing tremendous voter excitement and engagement during the Advance Voting period, it’s important for voters to double check our current Advance Voting locations being used this election cycle," DeKalb VRE Executive Director Keisha Smith said in a statement reported by DeKalb County.
For residents planning to participate in Advance Voting, it continues through Nov. 1, and operates from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend voting is also an option with Saturday times set for Oct. 19, and Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Sunday hours available on Oct. 20, and Oct. 27, from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. These details were confirmed according to the official DeKalb County notification.
DeKalb VRE also issued reminders for those choosing to vote via absentee ballot. The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot is set for next Friday. Once voters have their absentee ballot, they can return it by using a DeKalb County drop box, provided at certain Advance Voting locations, or it can be mailed or hand-delivered to DeKalb VRE's offices. All absentee ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Nov. 5, Election Day. In addition, there are specific guidelines to follow when dropping off absentee ballots, including completing onsite paperwork, as highlighted in the public announcement.
Each absentee ballot may be returned by a number of individuals including the voter, certain family members, individuals living in the same household as the voter, caretakers of disabled voters, and by jail employees if the voter is in custody. Drop boxes for absentee ballots are located at select Advance Voting locations, denoted with an asterisk on their list, and can only be used during Advance Voting hours. An overview of this information is available through the county's website.
On November 5, Election Day, voters must visit their assigned polling place. DeKalb VRE encourages voters to confirm their polling location ahead of time by visiting the state's MVP website. A full list of Advance Voting locations, including those with drop boxes, is also provided to assist voters with their plans.
