Early Friday morning, DeKalb County firefighters contained a blaze at a local Kroger grocery store. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on the 2300 block of Wesley Chapel Road. According to the fire department, they responded to a call about smoke seen on the backside of the store and discovered that a trash fire outside had escalated to the grocery store's roof, as first reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
The store, which had employees inside at the time the fire broke out, sustained damage limited to its exterior and roof. Confirming the absence of injuries, DeKalb fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze, which prevented damage inside the store, as per details from Atlanta News First.
The store remains operational and continues to serve the community while the investigation into the fire's origins is ongoing.
