Early Tuesday morning, Mattapan law enforcement officials arrested 32-year-old Dorchester resident Amir Massey on multiple firearm charges, including the unlawful possession of a firearm. The traffic stop was initiated when officers patrolling the Columbia Road and Seaver Street vicinity noticed a vehicle with malfunctioning front and rear lights, according to a Boston Police Department report.
Detailing the incident, officers during the stop found that not only was the front headlight inoperable, they observed as the vehicle passed by that the rear lights were not illuminated. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers observed a broken and cracked rear driver's side tail light. Initial encounters with the vehicle’s occupants revealed further violations, including a front passenger without a seatbelt, prompting the officers to request identification from the driver and the passenger.
The search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a SAR 9 firearm with a round in the chamber and sixteen rounds in the magazine. Massey is now facing charges for the fourth offense of unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a dangerous weapon for the third offense, and several other related charges. With prior violent and drug-related offenses, this escalated Massey's charges significantly.
Following the frisk that warranted them to leave the vehicle, the police's subsequent search brought the firearm into plain view. "Massey was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 4th Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Subsequent Offense, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon 3rd Offense, Resist Arrest, Firearm Violation with 2 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes," as noted in the police report. The arraignment is scheduled to take place in Dorchester District Court.
