The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken Chris Johnson, a 39-year-old funeral home owner from Douglas, into custody on multiple charges of abuse of dead body. Johnson is facing seventeen counts after deputies, there to serve an eviction notice, stumbled upon a grisly scene: eighteen bodies in varying states of decay were found at the Johnson Funeral Home on Saturday, as confirmed by GBI's official announcement.
In their ongoing investigation, as performed by the regional office in Douglas, the GBI acted following a request from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. While serving the eviction notice, deputies uncovered the scene that has now lead to Johnson's arrest. As the case unfolds, additional charges against Johnson are anticipated. Post the conclusion of the investigation, the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office is expected, the case file to review and proceed with the prosecution.
