The El Paso Sheriff's Office Mounted Unit recently hosted a Level II Advanced Mounted Patrol Course at the Norris-Penrose Event Center, as per a statement released on October 18th. Deputies from various Colorado law enforcement agencies, including the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, Montrose Police Department, Denver County Sheriff's Office, and Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, participated in the week-long training.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, the course was aimed at enhancing skills in search and rescue, land navigation, and equine first aid. Advanced tactics in patrol, crowd control, and de-escalation were also a focus. The training event featured instructors with a collective experience of over 50 years in law enforcement, working alongside equine partners which further honed their expertise.

El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal expressed his pride in the Mounted Unit's leadership and their contribution to law enforcement's modern practices. "Our instructors collectively have over 50 years of experience in law enforcement, working with equine partners," said Sheriff Roybal, as per El Paso County Sheriff's Office. "My Office is dedicated to preserving the Western heritage and history we hold as Coloradans and law enforcement."

Furthermore, the Sheriff applauded his deputies, singling out Larry Murphy, Chris Herman, and Sergeant Jeremy Juhl for their dedication and extending an invitation to law enforcement agencies nationwide for future training.
