An Elgin man is facing first-degree murder charges after a fatal stabbing incident took place over the weekend. According to FOX 32 Chicago, Anderson Contreras, 21, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm following an altercation on Saturday.

The trouble began around 12:30 p.m. on the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue, as police responded to a call, upon their arrival they discovered a man suffering from life-threatening stab wounds to the torso and, as the victim was later transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital, he was pronounced dead. WGN-TV reports an autopsy is expected to take place on Tuesday to further establish the cause of death.

The suspect, Contreras, was subsequently taken into custody and is currently being held at the Kane County jail; he is scheduled for a court appearance again on October 24th. The specifics of the argument or what precipitated the stabbing remain unclear, while the authorities continue to investigate the sequence of events that led to this violent encounter.
