Shuckers Waterfront Grill, a beloved oceanfront dining spot in Miami since 1989, will close permanently on October 27. The restaurant has been a local favorite for nearly four decades on the North Bay Village waterfront, according to the Miami New Times.
The closure of Shuckers comes on the heels of a real estate deal with a New York firm and Norwegian DJ Kygo's company, Palm Tree Crew, which bought the property earlier this year for an eye-watering $75 million. The acquisition entails plans for a luxury hotel and upscale dining that will replace the existing institution, so this development marks a considerable shift away from the casual charm that Shuckers has been known for. Meanwhile, Shuckers' vice president of operations, Bruce Siegel, expressed a deep sense of loss, "We are devastated to have to close the doors of this iconic Miami institution," he told the Miami New Times.
While fans of the waterfront grill will surely miss its ambiance and offerings, the owners of Shuckers are reportedly looking for a new location to continue the legacy of the restaurant. As they navigated this transition, they expressed an eagerness to find a new space where those who have cherished the restaurant can once again create memories; this was noted on their post about the closure on World Red Eye's Instagram.
As Shuckers prepares to close, locals and fans have the chance to visit one last time. The owners are exploring options for a new location where the spirit of Shuckers can continue.
