A bank heist attempt on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard fizzled out on Tuesday afternoon when a would-be robber abandoned his efforts and fled, only to be captured by police moments later. As informed by the San Diego Police Department's Watch Commander's Log, the incident occurred at the 1800 block of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard in Ocean Beach at 3:41 PM.
The suspect, a male in his 30s wearing black clothing and a backpack, presented a demand note to a bank teller. Triggering the robbery alarm, the teller acted quickly without giving away the cash. Realizing his plan was crumbling, the suspect reclaimed the note and hastily exited the premises. Officers, already patrolling nearby, spotted and detained a male matching the description southeast of the scene. According to the City of San Diego, a curbside lineup resulted in bank employees positively identifying the suspect.
