Yesterday morning, a tragic collision on SR-4 in Antioch claimed the life of one driver and left another with minor injuries, CHP Contra Costa reported. The accident occurred just west of A Street, involving a gray Honda CR-V and a blue Ford F-150, which resulted in the Honda catching fire with the driver trapped inside.
According to the CHP officer who discovered the scene around 5:13 am, the Honda somehow became disabled in the #4 lane. Although the exact cause isn't yet known, the Ford, which was traveling eastbound, subsequently collided with the rear of the Honda, leading to the vehicle's immediate and tragic engulfment in flames. The collision blocked the lanes, and emergency services were dispatched to assist.
The statement from CHP - Contra Costa confirmed that the solo male driver of the Honda sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the site of the accident. The driver of the Ford, also a sole male occupant, reportedly sustained suspected minor injuries, was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover. Authorities have ruled out DUI as a contributing factor in this devastating incident.
