Two individuals were taken into custody following a police pursuit in Gaines Township. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. Saturday when Kent County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a dark-colored sedan. The vehicle, instead of pulling over promptly, led authorities on a brief chase along South Division Avenue and Green Meadow Street, as reported by FOX 17.

The 23-year-old male driver initially paused, which allowed deputies to place spike strips beneath the vehicle's rear passenger tire. Defying the preparations of law enforcement, the suspect attempted to flee once more, according to WOOD TV. A short distance later, the driver abandoned the vehicle and proceeded to escape on foot, while the 20-year-old female passenger stayed at the car.

Subsequent to their search of the sedan, officials uncovered a significant quantity of marijuana, packaging materials, a scale, as well as a large sum of cash and a loaded Glock 10 millimeter pistol. "Our deputies encounter dangerous individuals daily, and we are thankful no one was hurt in this incident," deputies said in a statement obtained by WWMT

Both suspects, whose names were not released at the time of the reports, are now facing legal repercussions. No injuries were reported as a result of the chase. This case is still under investigation as authorities work to determine the full extent of the incident and the charges to be filed.
