The pursuit of affordable childcare, a topic of much public interest and concern, will again surface as a priority in Georgia. The Senate Study Committee on Access to Affordable Childcare is scheduled to hold its second meeting to directly tackle this issue. Chaired by Sen. Brian Strickland of McDonough, the committee is looking to lay down actionable recommendations that could help to greatly ease the burden on the state's families.
Meeting particulars, as reported by the Senate Press, have been set for Wednesday, October 30 at 11:00 a.m. at a venue resonant with community and youth development—the Shaquille O’Neal Boys & Girls Club of Henry County. Those unable to attend in person can yet catch the proceedings, which will be cast widely across the state via a live stream on the Georgia General Assembly website.
The committee's formation springs from a legislative intent spelled out in Senate Resolution 471 during the 2024 session. The endgame is to find viable strategies and solutions to effectively open the gates wider for access to cost-friendly childcare across Georgia—a matter that touches the economics of family life and the vibrancy of the workforce.
Georgia's parents, caregivers, providers, and anyone with a stake in the outcomes are encouraged to tune in or attend. Public participation is being actively sought, as the meeting is open to the public, fulfilling the committee's mandate to operate transparently. Media outlets are equally being drawn into the conversation with the caveat that they confirm their attendance in advance to ensure orderly coverage of the committee’s work.
For updates, queries, or media confirmations, Jantz Womack of the Senate Press Office has been appointed as the first point of contact.
