At the 35th annual Texas Crime Stoppers conference in Waco, Governor Greg Abbott applauded the organization's pivotal role in cracking down on crime across the state, particularly highlighting their success in arresting members of the notorious Tren de Aragua gang. Abbott emphasized, "Texas Crime Stoppers is an essential tool in our efforts to keep Texas safe," underscoring that four thousand cases last year saw their conclusion due to the tip line and community efforts, according to a report from the Office of the Texas Governor.
Throughout the past year, more than 60,000 anonymous tips were received through the Crime Stoppers network, which includes dedicated citizens, law enforcement, and the media. Governor Abbott, speaking to a congregation consisting of over 400 personnel from law enforcement and local leadership, touted the P3 App and the numerous anti-crime initiatives that resulted in not only money rewards surpassing $1 million but also the closure of significant cases and the capture of four criminals on the Texas Top 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants list.
With Texas facing the escalating menace posed by Tren de Aragua, labeled as a foreign terrorist organization by Abbott last month, a direct directive was issued to heighten the gang's status to Tier 1, mobilizing the full spectrum of state resources to combat the threat. The Governor announced a $5,000 reward for information that would lead to the arrest of suspected TdA gang members engaged in criminal activities, as noted in his address.
Several local officials were present in affirmation of the Crime Stoppers' efforts, including McLennan County Judge Scott Felton and Waco Mayor Jim Holmes, among others. Standing amongst the officials as he spoke, Abbott reiterated the unity of Texas Crime Stoppers, composed of community members, law enforcement, and media, all striving as one to diminish the shadows of crime and bring fugitives to justice, in making Texas a fortress of safety.
