A Hebron man, age 30, suffered serious injuries after a motorcycle crash near U.S. Route 14 in unincorporated McHenry County, according to local authorities. The incident, which involved only the motorcycle operated by the victim, occurred on Hebron Road just west of Willow Lakes Road.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash happened on Friday, October 4, at around 11:37 a.m., when the 1983 Honda Motorcycle the man was driving eastbound lost control for reasons yet to be determined, leading to the motorcycle going down on the pavement, and the operator was ejected; he slid along the roadway before coming to a stop. Following the incident, family members transported the injured man to Mercyhealth Hospital and Medical Center – Harvard, after which he was flown to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital – Riverside Campus in Rockford, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
The preliminary findings of the investigation suggest that the man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and impairment does not seem to be a contributing factor; however, speed and driving experience are under consideration as possible influences, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office indicates.
With the inquiry into the crash still underway by the Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit of the sheriff’s office, further details are expected as investigators work to piece together the events that led up to the fall that afternoon.
