Early Friday morning, a high-speed Jeep ran a red light in Englewood and crashed into a truck, resulting in a wild scene where a detached trailer went careening into a nearby house and pole. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. in the 2000 block of West Marquette Road, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Officials reported that despite the chaos, there were no serious injuries.
The collision was initiated when a white Jeep, described by the Chicago Police as traveling "at a high rate of speed," disregarded a traffic signal and rammed a truck, which led to its trailer becoming unhitched and striking a residence before ultimately hitting a light pole. The driver of the Jeep fled the scene on foot but did not get far before being apprehended by authorities. The Chicago Tribune noted that the Jeep's driver was later taken to Holy Cross Hospital with an arm injury and is facing multiple traffic citations.
The impact of the crash was significant enough to dislodge the truck's trailer, but fortunately, it did not result in injuries to the truck driver, who refused medical attention on the scene. Additionally, none of the residents in the home struck by the trailer were harmed. Factors that could have potentially escalated the situation to a more tragic outcome were, by a certain grace, held at bay.
Following the crash, the area was cordoned off as investigations commenced and cleanup efforts were underway. The police have stated that traffic citations are pending against the Jeep driver.
