A 19-year-old Kalamazoo resident was hospitalized following a high-velocity crash that ended with a vehicle engulfed in flames against a mobile home in Cass County yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Wood Lake Road near Welburn Street in Newberg Township, according to reports from the Cass County Sheriff's Office obtained by WOODTV.
The sheriff's investigators described the sequence of events where Charlotte Barrow, the driver, was apparently speeding and went airborne over a hill. The driver struggled to regain control of the vehicle, which then veered off the road, overturned, and collided with an unoccupied mobile home being used for storage. Both the vehicle and the mobile home caught on fire as a result of the impact. The sheriff's office, as reported by WWMT, said neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have been factors in the crash.
Emergency services responded to the chaotic scene, providing medical aid before transporting Barrow to Three Rivers Health Hospital. Despite the fiery aftermath of the crash, no other individuals were reported injured, especially given the fortunate fact that the mobile home was not occupied at the time of the incident. The extent of Barrow's injuries have not been disclosed.
The local news outlet 953 MNC detailed further that the woman was taken for treatment by Newberg Ambulance. The conditions inside and around the mobile home post-crash were not immediately available. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
