A man was inadvertently shot in the leg outside his home on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Knoxville, as bullets flew during an exchange of gunfire between passing vehicles last night. WVLT reported that the Knoxville Police Department (KPD) is actively investigating the incident, which occurred around 7:40 p.m. near the intersection with Lakeside Street.
The unfortunate sequence of events left the victim with non-life-threatening injuries, as per WIVK. According to statements from the victim, he was shot as the occupants of two vehicles exchanged gunfire while driving through his neighborhood. Subsequent to the investigation, KPD officers located one of the vehicles involved on Mississippi Avenue and detained its two occupants for questioning.
Meanwhile, the search continues for the other vehicle, which has been described as a possible dark gray SUV. WBIR reports that the KPD has requested the public's assistance in identifying the second vehicle involved in the shootout.
