Early this morning, the Pittsburgh Police responded to a landslide on Brereton Street in the Polish Hill area. According to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter, the landslide, which occurred just past Haran Street and was reported shortly before 3 a.m., was triggered by a broken water main.
Officers arriving at the scene found that the water main break had sent torrents onto the roadway. This incident led to the roadway's collapse, which sent a cascade of debris sliding down onto the M.L.K Jr. East Busway below. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) arrived to address the water main break, shutting off the water supply to prevent further damage. Meanwhile, Department of Public Works crews installed barricades to isolate the affected area and ensure public safety. Despite the disruption, the 28th Street Bridge remains open, maintaining crucial access for the city’s commuters.
Residents in the surrounding area have been informed about the landslide, and they have not been required to evacuate. However, the Busway is still closed while authorities assess the extent of the damage and initiate cleanup operations.
