A pedestrian was fatally struck by a semi-tractor trailer on Interstate 15. The incident, which took place near Speedway Boulevard early Sunday, resulted in the death of Las Vegas resident Shawn Robert Saenz, 52, as reported by Review-Journal.
Attempting to avoid the collision, the driver of a white 2016 Freightliner commercial box truck, traveling northbound on I-15, swerved left after Saenz entered the travel lane but, tragically, could not avoid striking him. Described as cooperative by the authorities, the driver remained on-scene, as reported by KTNV.
This incident contributes to a somber statistic, with the Nevada Highway Patrol Southern Command having investigated 54 fatal crashes so far this year, resulting in 62 fatalities.
