The Metropolitan Police Department reported the arrest of a man linked to multiple robberies targeting construction workers in Northeast D.C. The spree of thefts, which rattled the community in recent weeks, has led to charges against an individual accused of using a handgun to intimidate and rob hardworking people.
According to the police report, the first robbery occurred on September 13, 2024, in broad daylight around 1:15 p.m. when a suspect was spotted rummaging through a vehicle belonging to a construction worker on the 300 block of 58th Street, Northeast. Upon being confronted by another worker, the suspect brandished a handgun, demanding valuables, before fleeing the scene, the MPD detailed.
Following a similar pattern, on October 3, the man targeted three workers during their lunch break, again in the 300 block of 58th Street, Northeast. Brandishing his firearm, he coerced the workers into handing over their belongings. The very next day, he confronted a group of landscapers in the 400 block of 59th Place, Northeast, using the same modus operandi. However, this time, the police swiftly intervened as officers were flagged down shortly after the robbery occurred, a move that eventually led to the suspect's apprehension.
The Metropolitan Police Department has urged anyone with additional information to come forward as the investigation continues. Arresting this suspect marks a crucial step toward restoring a measure of peace and order for the construction workers who faced these harrowing encounters, and the community at large. The identity of the arrested suspect and the specific charges have not been released at this time.
