A man was left in critical condition after a robbery turned violent in The Greater Ville neighborhood, according to St. Louis Metropolitan Police. District 5 officers are currently investigating the event that occurred around 5 p.m. on the 3900 block of Maffitt, as first reported by SLMPD.
The victim, a 39-year-old man, claimed he had arranged to sell window tint to four males when one of the suspects brandished a handgun. Trying to defend himself, the man reportedly fired his own gun at the suspects, according to authorities.
It was during this altercation that the victim's firearm was taken by the suspects, who then escaped in a red Nissan. The man was discovered with a gunshot wound to his leg; however, he was unsure whether the injury was self-inflicted or if one of the suspects had shot him.
Emergency medical services responded to the scene, transporting the injured man to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition. "The investigation remains ongoing," was stated in a post on the SLMPD website. Details about the four suspects have not yet been released, and law enforcement continues to pursue leads in the case.
