A man has been taken into custody following a fatal shooting that occurred in a Plymouth parking lot, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and Plymouth Police Chief Dana Flynn announced. The incident, which took place approximately at 5:45 p.m. yesterday, left one man dead and another facing multiple charges including murder.
Multiple 911 calls alerted the Plymouth Police to the scene at the Middle Street town parking lot, where 41-year-old Brent Berkeley was found with gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, where he was later pronounced dead of his injuries. Witnesses identified the suspect as 23-year-old David Jerome, who was then arrested by the Plymouth Police, as detailed in a social media post from the department.
The preliminary investigation has found that the shooting occurred after a minor traffic incident and a physical altercation between Berkeley, in a Jeep SUV, and Jerome, in a Toyota RAV4. Jerome's 18-month-old son was in a car seat at the time. Detectives, along with the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, established probable cause to charge Jerome with several offenses, including murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and reckless endangerment of a child. David Jerome is expected to face arraignment on these charges today in Plymouth District Court.
