
Tragedy struck early Sunday morning as a man lost his life to gunfire in Downtown Portland. Police and emergency medical services arrived at the scene around 2:41 a.m., after officers from Central Precinct's Entertainment District Detail heard shots fired near West Burnside Street and Southwest 3rd Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim, already deceased, in a nearby parking lot.
The perpetrator or perpetrators managed to quickly leave the scene, and as of the latest updates, no arrests have yet been made. The Portland Police Homicide Unit was promptly on site to take over the proceedings of the investigation. To facilitate their examination of the incident, West Burnside Street and Southwest 3rd Avenue were temporarily closed, but they were expected to reopen soon after.
As the inquiry into the shooting continues, the Portland Police have made an appeal to the public for any information that might be helpful. Detectives Shaye Samora and Mike Schmerber are heading the investigation and have been listed as contact points for tips. The Portland Police Bureau has provided an official statement requesting that anyone with knowledge pertaining to the case should come forward.
While the Police Information Officer (PIO) did not respond to the scene, additional information is anticipated to be made available in due time. Details surrounding the identity of the victim or the circumstances leading to the shooting have not been immediately disclosed.
