Gwinnett County is reeling from a deadly incident that occurred at a gas station on Jimmy Carter Boulevard this past Friday morning. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, police were called to the scene around 7:45 a.m. due to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man who had been shot at least once. The victim was urgently transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators placed over a dozen evidence markers at the crime scene. As reported by the FOX 5 Atlanta, investigators believe that during an altercation, the victim was shot by an individual who approached on foot, then fled the scene after the shooting. While the identity of the victim remains undisclosed, the search for the gunman continues.
Further details emerged from WSBTV, revealing that surveillance footage captured the moments a masked man fatally shot the victim. Witnesses describe hearing a sequence of gunshots, with Yash Singh, who was nearby at his auto repair shop at the time, telling the publication, "It feels like a semi-automatic gun because it was continuously five shots."
The scene of the shooting is not unacquainted with violence; WSBTV highlighted that within just a half-mile radius, there have been 37 robberies since May. Authorities are currently investigating whether there is any connection to another recent crime in the area where a man was seen on video beating a store clerk at a business across from Friday's murder site. "It makes you cautious of where you want to go honestly," local resident Luis Naranjo confided in the same interview with WSBTV.
Police are urging anyone with information to reach out to the Gwinnett County Police Department at (770) 513-5300 or to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at (404) 577-8477.
