Early this morning, a report of a young individual brandishing a firearm near a Manchester High School caused alarm among students and school authorities. According to a social media post by the Manchester NH Police, at around 8:00 AM, Memorial High School students alerted staff and School Resource Officers to the presence of an 18-year-old man with a gun in the parking lot close to the stadium.
Responding swiftly to these reports, the school initiated a "secure campus" protocol, a safety measure that lasted for approximately five minutes. The situation prompted an immediate response from the Manchester Police Department, leading to the apprehension of Tyson Lennartson, who was found near a local business. Although Lennartson, who is not a student at the school, was found carrying a firearm, it was indicated that he did not attempt to enter the educational facility.
The Manchester Police further stated that Lennartson faces charges for Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Threatening. The police commended the observant students and the efficient reaction of school personnel, emphasizing that the emergency procedures were executed effectively and helped in ensuring that the incident remained isolated, with no subsequent threats to student safety identified.
